General director of sugar beet seed institute: development of autumn-sown sugar beet cultivation is an approach to increase productivity

Dr. Taleghani, General Director of SBSI, visited the autumn-sown sugar beet research pilot in Gachsaran Research Station and Yasouj sugar factory. During his visit, Taleghani pointed out that the new autumn-sown sugar beet cultivars are the result of a five-year study by the researchers of SBSI, yielding about 90 t/ha root and 16% sugar content. This shows the high potential of tropical regions in the development of autumn-sown sugar beet cultivation. With the autumn-sown cultivation of sugar beet in the direction of the cultivation pattern program, water consumption will be reduced by 30%. Other advantages of autumn-sown sugar beet cultivation in tropical areas are larger leaf area index as well as low incidence of pests and diseases.
At the end of the visit, Lishtar and Basht plains were considered as the proper plains for the autumn-sown sugar beet cultivation pilot.
